Evita is a very emotionally charged musical that leaves a lasting impression long after the final curtain. While it may not have been Max's complete cup of tea, Max thought the production was very good.

Musically, Evita is ambition. The most Iconic number being “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” is undeniably powerful, demanding vocal strength, stamina, and emotional precision from the cast.

When performed well, these moments soar; The role of Eva, in particular, is one of the most demanding in musical theatre, requiring a performer who can balance vulnerability, ambition, and authority without losing authenticity.

The show constantly challenges the audience to question power, class, and political mythology. Che’s narration acts as both conscience and critic, grounding the spectacle with cynicism and sharp observation, ensuring the story never slips into pure romanticism.

Effective staging and choreography elevate the storytelling, allowing the musical’s themes to land with real weight rather than feeling like historical pageantry.

While Evita may not be a feel good musical in the traditional sense, it is undeniably impactful. It demands attention, provokes thought, and showcases musical theatre at its most ambitious. Love her or loathe her, Eva Perón’s story is told with intensity, intelligence, and theatrical confidence making Evita a challenging but rewarding experience.
